Economic Regeneration Projects, Shepton Mallet

Representatives of community groups from ten towns met in Shepton Mallet on Wednesday 24th March to learn about progress on a number of projects in the town.


Alan Stone, Shepton 21 member, local historian and a regular tour guide, led us on a tour of the town, pointing out the BT exchange where the CATEC project was planned to go, the many stone walls which are a feature of the town and the buildings that have benefitted from Shepton’s Shopfront Facelift project. read more

Developing the local Tourism ‘offer’

This Network Event focussed on the things that towns can do to improve the tourism ‘offer’ – making towns more attractive to visitors.

It covered the provision of visitor information (specifically looking at good examples of Information Centres), developing projects that interpret local heritage, and also two examples of major events – The Ilminster Midsummer Experience and Frome hosting the start of a stage of the Tour of Britain. read more

Frome Network Event

We had a very good Network Event in Frome yesterday, with 20 members and guests learning about Frome’s fascinating history and future plans.


Maggy Daniell (Vision for Frome & Town Councillor) and John Peverley (Frome Civic Society) took us on an interesting tour which included the Black Swan Arts Centre and nearby development around the Market car park, the award-winning Piggeries housing development and the historic Trinity area (see below), and finishing in Catherines Hill, a independent/boutique pedestrian-only shopping street. read more

Radstock Network Event

Representatives from Frome, Ilminster and Wellington travelled to Radstock on June 24th to take part in the latest SMTF Network Event, which looked at opportunities for community regeneration partnerships and town councils to engage more fully in the development process in our towns. read more
